This entry is a tribute to September 11th. It is not funny. I do not intend for it to be funny. That would be like saying to a comedy club full of New Yorkers "Do you know what the best thing about terrorist bombings are?" Yeah. This is my recollection of the events of Tuesday, September 11th, 2001.
I remember thing how wonderful a morning it was, a crisp clean September morning. I knew we were doing ISTEP testing that day but otherwise it would be, to put it quite simply a day of no consequence. I took ISTEP that morning and answered it's hilariously easy questions like, "Jenny has a cat. Jenny loves her cat." "Question 1.) What Does Jenny Love? A.) Her Tuba, B.) Her Cat C.) Her Bedroom D.) The Newspaper" I remember my incompetant personal aide Tony whispering something to the resource teacher about the World Trade Center. and how his dad was on a plane. I thought they were discussing the last time the World Trade Center was bombed. 1993. In comparison a small amount of lives were lost that day. The resource teacher said "Wow, Scary!" quite sincerely and left. Tony stood around and was generally incompetant (Note: I haven't spoken to Tony since May 2002 and do not plan to again. Ever.) ISTEP was over around 9:30 when we changed classes. I went to third period which was TD Social Studies with Mr. Harvey. We talked about the revolutionary war or something. I have to remind you that at this point this was just a Tuesday in September, a day of no consequence. Mr. Watts came on the announcements and said something that I don't remember. But it was not well written and in recollection I remember him practically coming out and saying "Today is a normal day. No terrorist attacks have taken the lives of 2,000 innocent Americans today" In typical Mr. Harvey fashion he said "Oh, by the way, a plane just flew into the World Trade Center." The world stopped.
